Interoperability Approaches When Migrating From On-Premise To Cloud Erp

Interoperability enables the exchange and use of information between differ-ent systems or technologies to streamline processes. However, interoperabil-ity is a significant barrier to using cloud Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, even though Cloud ERP has gained traction compared to on-premise ERP solutions. Hence this research study aimed to understand the barriers hindering interoperability and explain approaches to ensure it when migrating from on-premise to Cloud ERP. This case study is qualitative in nature and utilised a hybrid thematic analysis method. Utilising an existing Enterprise Interoperability Framework as a guide, the study revealed several new and enriched system and non-system driven interoperability approaches across business, data, process, services, and systems. The study recommends opportunities for more case studies to be investigated and three potential re-search gaps have been identified to investigate interoperability approaches to resolve organisation change management, business process inefficiency and poor data quality prior to migrating from on-premise to a Cloud ERP.
