Building An Instrument of Success Factor To Evaluate Research Software

Context: Research in different areas, such as sciences, computing, engineering, humanities, and other fields, depends on software developed in academia by researchers. However, some research software becomes a success, and others do not. Objective: The goal of this paper is to verify the applicability of the success factors that lead to adoption in research software. Method: Four case studies was conducted to verify success factors identified previously. We used GQM and an analysis of the collected data was conducted according to the empirical research aiming to identify the impact of the research software. Results: We demonstrate the results of the level of impact of tools by conducting a comparative evaluation of the research software. Conclusion: Our study provides insights related to the success factors of research software.
