Artificial Intelligence Applications In Tourism: Innovations, Challenges and Opportunities

The rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has significantly trans-formed the tourism industry, offering innovative solutions to enhance cus-tomer experiences, optimise operations, and drive intelligent tourism devel-opment. This review explores the various applications of AI in the tourism sector, including using chatbots and virtual assistants for personalised cus-tomer service, recommendation systems for tailored travel experiences, and predictive analytics for improved decision-making in tourism management. Additionally, the integration of AI with imaginative tourism concepts, such as interconnected cities and destinations, is analysed to understand its potential for shaping the future of travel. However, this technological revolution also presents several challenges regarding data privacy, security, and ethical con-cerns surrounding AI-driven decision-making processes. The paper compre-hensively analyses current AI technologies used in tourism, the benefits they bring to tourists and service providers, and the ongoing ethical considerations that must be addressed to ensure responsible and sustainable AI implementa-tion. By synthesising recent research, this review highlights the critical role of AI in the tourism industry's future and identifies areas requiring further ex-ploration. The findings underscore the necessity for adopting a balanced ap-proach to AI, combining technological innovation with ethical practices to foster an innovative and sustainable tourism ecosystem.
