Study of The Implications of The Level of Project Management Maturity On The Ease of Implementing The Evm Method

This study proposes a matrix linking project management maturity levels with phases of Earned Value Management (EVM) implementation, with the objective of providing guidelines for organizations to implement EVM effectively, considering maturity level. The study aims to understand the implica-tions that different maturity levels have on the implementation of the EVM method. The study begins with a literature review of the various project management maturity models and the EVM methodology standards. These were analyzed, and a project management maturity model and an EVM method standard were selected. Then, each essential practice for EVM implementation was analyzed to determinate the minimum project management maturity level necessary for its implementation, forming the matrix. To validate the matrix, two case studies were analyzed and both cases demonstrated the effectiveness of the matrix, making it possible to verify whether the minimum project management maturity level necessary to apply each practice is correct. Next, specific guidelines for implementing the EVM method are presented depending on the organization's project management maturity level. The results indicate that organizations with higher levels of project man-agement maturity are able to implement the EVM method, taking advantage of all the benefits that this method provides. The research contributes to the understanding of how maturity levels influence EVM implementation. Future research is recommended to expand the sample size, integrate emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, and explore the impact of new standards such as ISO 21512 on EVM practices.
